Smart Hair Care Tips for Men with Long Hair

A healthy, well-maintained long hair can look great on men, too. However, maintaining a long hairstyle can be a challenge sometimes for men. Proper maintenance is critical to keeping your long hair in top condition though.

So, if you want your hair to always look its best and stay healthy, make sure to follow these smart tips.

  for Men with Long Hair

Have the right tools for your hair

The right tools can make all the difference, so to have a healthy, long hair, you should definitely invest in good quality, proper tools. For instance, a wide-tooth comb and high quality hair brush with natural bristles are essential. Also, if you wear a ponytail, consider buying some cloth coated bands as rubber bands can damage your hair.

Shampoo & condition on daily basis

Purchase the proper shampoo and conditioner for your hair type and use them daily. Before shampooing, use a wide-tooth comb and make sure the hair is free of tangles. Rinse your hair after two or three minutes of gently working the shampoo through and then apply your hair conditioner. After it has worked it’s magic (see instructions on the bottle), rinse the conditioner out with cooler water. Remember, water that is too hot will strip essential oils from the hair sand scalp.

Dry your hair with care

Keep in mind that towel drying is one of the biggest causes of damage to men's hair, so if you have this habit, make sure to get rid of it. When hair is wet, it is exposed to damage. When the hair is rubbed with a towel, some of the hairs become tangled in the threads of the towel and become stretched to the breaking point, causing damage to the cuticle, frizziness, and split ends.

Blow drying is also a common cause of damage to the hair. In case you must use a blow dryer, simply apply a thermal styling spray or detangler to coat the hair and protect it from damage, and always leave the hair slightly damp.

Never wear your hair too tight

If you generally wear tight hats or very tight ponytails know that this habit can cause a condition called traction alopecia. This is hair loss due to damage to the hair's root from pulling hair too tight. Additionally, wearing a tight hat or ponytail can stretch the hair and cause it to frizz and break. Wearing your hats and ponytails looser will help prevent such damages.

Avoid pool water

In case you enjoy the occasional swimming (or you are a professional swimmer), make sure to avoid damaging your hair in the pool by using leave in conditioners and clarifying shampoos before and also after you swim.

Stay healthy

The condition of your hair is the reflection of the condition of your body and lifestyle. Stress, poor diet, smoking, and lack of sleep all contribute to poor health and dull, lifeless looking hair. So, try to live a healthy, balanced life – your hair will completely change its appearance and you’ll be enjoying a beautiful, healthy looking hair.

No more frizzy hair

With longer hair, frizz can sometimes become an issue you need to deal with. To fight frizz, you'll need to use a good conditioner each day. A light leave-in conditioner or a smoothing serum can go a long way in helping you reduce frizz.

For even better results you can opt for professional Keratin Treatments for frizzy hair at your favorite hair salon.

Don’t forget to get a trim regularly

Keeping your hair trimmed on regular basis will help you get rid of split ends. Make sure to have your hair trimmed about every 6 to 8 weeks. You’ll see how much healthier your hair will look after each trim.
